Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a free tool provided by Google that lets you monitor, maintain, and optimize a website's presence in search results. It reports data directly from Google's index: the queries that generated impressions and clicks, average position, click-through rate, page indexing status, crawl errors, security issues, and Core Web Vitals performance. Search Console also lets you submit an XML sitemap, request indexing of a URL, test how a page renders, and inspect the structured data Google detects. Unlike third-party tools that estimate traffic, Search Console returns real, site-specific data, which makes it the source of truth for tracking organic search. It is the starting point of any serious SEO diagnosis and informs most optimization decisions you will make about a site.

Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) is the official interface through which Google communicates with site owners. It is the only tool that returns real data from the Google index, with no third-party estimation or sampling.

How it works

To use Search Console, you first need to prove that you own the site, via an HTML tag, a DNS record, or a link to Google Analytics. Once ownership is verified, Google starts surfacing the data collected by its crawler, the Googlebot.

The most-used report is the performance report, which details the queries that triggered your pages, the number of impressions, clicks, click-through rate (CTR), and average position. The indexing report flags indexed and excluded pages along with any errors encountered. Other sections cover page experience (Core Web Vitals), structured data, and possible manual actions.

A concrete example

You publish an article and want to speed up its discovery. In Search Console, you use the URL inspection tool to check its status, then request indexing. A few days later, the performance report shows the first queries generating impressions, often revealing keywords you had not anticipated.

A retenir
Search Console is the only 100% reliable, first-party SEO data source for your site. Every audit or SEO program should rely on it.

Why it matters

Without Search Console, you are steering blind. It is the tool that reveals crawl issues, position drops, deindexed pages, and content opportunities. At LUWIZ, it forms the basis of every diagnosis, alongside the XML sitemap and search-intent analysis.
